Artist Statement
My name is Claudiu Rogojan and I am a writer and director. What motivates me to make films is what I like to call “the beauty in violence”. There is an operatic feel to a good action scene if executed properly, and even something as horrific as violence can be made to look beautiful if done correctly. The concepts of loss and redemption go hand-in-hand with this motive to make films, and the style I go for is a noir aesthetic that I like to build. It is a way to say something about the innate human spirit and how even the best people and kindest people are capable of violence when pushed to the breaking point. I think that with this mindset filmmakers are able to make films with beautiful imagery as well as films that also entertain an audience while also bringing up some bigger questions about the human condition. I think it’s the perfect blend that I try to strive for and the blend of themes and ideas that every filmmaker should strive towards as I feel it pleases everyone. This is what I want to do with my films and I hope one day I am able to make these types of films for the rest of the world to enjoy equally, and give people something to think about as well as entertain them.
